Credit: Caverion Caverion Finland has agreed to design and build a substation for Nebius’s new data centre in Mäntsälä, southern Finland, in a deal valued at about €15 million. The company announced the contract on Friday and expects to finish the work by autumn 2027. The substation will link the data centre to the high-voltage grid and provide safe power to the site.

It will support Nebius’s second building in Mäntsälä, a 70-megawatt facility next to its current 75-megawatt data centre. “We will deliver the substation in Mäntsälä on an exceptionally fast schedule, as is typical for data centre construction: the substation will be completed in autumn 2027. The substation will have a capacity of 70 megawatts. We thank Nebius once again for its trust in our company’s capabilities, the quality of our work and our safe way of operating,” says Kari Aalto, Head of Industrial Projects and Infrastructure at Caverion Finland. Nebius, based in Amsterdam, provides AI computing power to companies that train and run AI models.

The company announced the second Mäntsälä site in August. When the new site opens in 2027, Nebius will have a total of 455 megawatts across three Finnish locations. The substation will have a 70-megawatt capacity, according to Kari Aalto, head of industrial projects and infrastructure at Caverion Finland. He said the project will employ about 80 power workers and electricians. “Our capacity expansion in Mäntsälä with the new data center is a key part of developing Nebius’s global AI infrastructure footprint,” said Andrey Blokhin, senior vice-president of global infrastructure at Nebius.

This is Caverion’s third deal with Nebius in Finland. In 2025, the company signed an €80 million contract to provide cooling, heat recovery, ventilation, and fire safety systems at the first Mäntsälä site. Earlier this year, Caverion also agreed to build a €15 million substation for Nebius’s data centre in Lappeenranta, which is scheduled for completion in 2027. Caverion, which is part of the Assemblin Caverion Group, said it has built about 30 new substations in Finland in recent years and upgraded around 50 others.
