Tesla’s European Megacharger rollout covers 21 sites and over 100 stalls

Milence, the joint venture owned by Daimler Truck, Traton and Volvo, has EU funding to build 284 megawatt charging points across 71 sites by the end of 2027. Tesla will install more than 100 megawatt-capable charging stalls at 21 sites in Europe, its Semi development head Dan Priestley told the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover, InsideEVs reported. Germany, France, the UK, Sweden and Benelux go first.

No timeline was given for any of it. The Semi itself is due in Europe in 2027. The hardware is rated at 1.2 MW, though the European Semi draws a maximum of 800 kW, electrive reported from the same keynote. Priestley said the network will be open to trucks from other brands.

That second part is the news inside the news. Both the truck and the charger use the MCS 3.2 connector, the seven-pin megawatt standard the industry settled on. Tesla put its first prefabricated eight-stall Supercharger into Bavaria this month, and it is building the truck network on the common plug rather than one of its own. So a Semi can charge on somebody else’s megawatt hardware, and Tesla will hand customers CCS adapters as well.

There is somebody else. Milence, a joint venture owned by Daimler Truck, Traton and Volvo, opened Europe’s first megawatt charger at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in February 2025. It now runs 13 hubs in six countries, and it invites other manufacturers to test on them. Its plan is larger than Tesla’s.

The EU has given Milence EUR 111.5M for a project called MILES, which is meant to deliver 284 megawatt charging points and 264 CCS points across 71 sites in 10 member states by the end of 2027. Tesla’s 21 sites arrive into that. European law asks for none of it. The rules want truck charging every 60 km on the core road network and every 100 km on the comprehensive one, with points of at least 350 kW and full coverage by 2030.

The megawatt layer is commercial, not required. Nobody is being forced to build any of it. The real constraint is the grid. A Megacharger bundle costs EUR 163,000 and a 120 kW Basecharger EUR 17,000, sold in pairs, with deliveries from the middle of next year.

But connection lead times across Europe run to years rather than months, and a logistics depot needs many times its current power to run an electric fleet. Also tagged with
