The veteran has also played for the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers.A fifth-round choice in 2018 out of South Florida, Valdez-Scantling spent training camp with the Dallas Cowboys, but the team released him when it cut its roster to 53 players.Valdes-Scantling’s signing comes after Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals in which wide receivers Ladd McConkey (rib), KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) and Derius Davis (undisclosed) were injured.
On Tuesday, the Chargers put Lambert-Smith on injured reserve, meaning he’ll sit out at least four games.The Cardinals had no answer for McConkey on Sunday. He had five catches for 82 yards and looked as if he was on the way for much more. But in the third quarter, linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. delivered a big hit as McConkey attempted to make a leaping grab on an in-breaking route in the middle of the field. McConkey was on the ground in apparent significant pain before leaving the field.
He didn’t return.Davis was injured on a Justin Herbert interception. Herbert launched a deep pass to Davis who was blanketed by two Cardinals defenders. As Davis attempted to make the grab, he landed awkwardly on his shoulder, and the ball was intercepted by safety Andrew Wingard. Davis returned to the game.Also Tuesday, the Chargers signed wide receiver Gary Jennings to the active roster from the practice squad.
