But given preexisting nonconference games for multiple teams, 12 teams are playing a nine-game ACC schedule and five are playing eight ACC games in 2026.That moves to 16 teams playing nine ACC games next season and will be the model moving forward.
In 2027, Clemson will be the only ACC team playing eight games. Every ACC team is required to play one Power 4 nonconference game each year. Clemson will play two in 2027: Notre Dame and South Carolina. That makes the ACC one of two Power Four conferences that mandates each team play a minimum of 10 Power Four opponents every year. The 2027 schedule continues to protect annual matchups, including Miami-Florida State, Virginia-Virginia Tech and NC State-North Carolina, while balancing East Coast to West Coast travel and enhances regional matchups. All games occur at least two times over seven years.Given the ongoing discussions at the College Football Playoff about possible expansion to a 24-team format, no decisions have been made about future schedules beyond 2027.
