How the new Apple Watches compare to the last-gen models

The most substantial operational improvement arrives with the Apple Watch Ultra 4, which now extends its operational duration to 50 hours per charge compared to the 42-hour capacity of the Ultra 3. Powering these next-generation wearables is the S11 silicon, a dual-core 64-bit microchip that enhances health diagnostics and drives advanced fitness routines. Physical heft has also seen a minor bump across the lineup, with the heaviest Ultra 4 reaching 63.1 grams, whereas the previous generation peaked at 61.8 grams. Simultaneously, the 42mm ceramic variation of the Series 12 weighs in at a maximum of 42.8 grams, marking a slight increase over earlier builds.

Despite these internal enhancements, financial entry points remain identical to the prior line, commencing at $399 for the basic aluminum Series 12 without cellular connectivity and $799 for the rugged Ultra 4. Premium variants of the Series 12 escalate in cost, reaching $699 for titanium builds and $899 for the newly introduced ceramic casing options offered in night blue and pearl white. Sizing for the core smartwatch family continues at 42mm and 46mm, while the single-size 49mm chassis remains exclusive to the titanium-clad Ultra 4. Consumers selecting the standard model can choose between updated aluminum finishes such as dark bronze, light gold, space gray, and black.

Unveiled during the “Surprise and shine” media showcase, the revised wristwear line runs on watchOS 27 and incorporates intelligent audio processing tools capable of dictating text transcripts and daily summaries. Wearers gain access to an always-active Siri assistant engineered to generate personal AI digests throughout the day, alongside upgraded wellness sensors tracking hypertension and sleep patterns. Both iteration tiers retain established core capabilities, including fast-charging functionality that restores 80 percent energy within 30 to 45 minutes, 64GB storage capacity, and water resistance reaching up to 100 meters on the ruggedized edition.
