During a Legend of Zelda stream for the franchise’s 40th anniversary, Nintendo announced that the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 is launching on November 5th.Nintendo first teased the remake back in June, though it didn’t reveal much aside from a brief trailer. Today’s event provided a clearer glimpse at how the company is approaching remaking one of its most influential games and the first 3D Zelda adventure.
The updated version of Ocarina of Time will be the first Zelda release that’s exclusive to the Switch 2, and long-time Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma described the remake as “a faithful interpretation using modern technologies.”The gameplay shown at the event revealed much more detailed graphics compared to the N64 original — including an intimidating take on the Great Deku Tree, and a surprisingly fancy hat for Link — along with free camera movement. Other new features include something called “threads of time,” which makes it easier to see where (and when) your next destination is, and the ability to hum tunes in the game instead of playing them via the controller. It hits theaters on April 30th, 2027.While today’s event featured a bunch of Zelda updates, there’s still more on the way from Nintendo: the company is holding a second Direct stream on September 9th at 10AM ET, which will be 45 minutes long and focus on Switch 2 games launching later in 2026.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Andrew WebsterEntertainmentGamingNewsNintendoLink can jump now!Jay Peters11 minutes ago“The title is… ‘The Legend of Zelda.’”Jay Peters16 minutes agoHey!
