SAP Headquarters, in Walldorf, Germany Credit: SAP SAP has agreed to buy TechWolf, a Belgian company whose AI maps the skills and daily work of a firm’s employees. The two companies announced the deal today but did not disclose its terms. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Until then, the two companies will continue to operate separately.
TechWolf, based in Ghent, builds a continuously updated model of a company’s workforce from the HR and business systems it already uses. The model covers three levels: the tasks within each job, the skills staff hold and apply, and the external labour market. Companies then compare that picture with their business strategy to decide where to hire, retrain or move staff. TechWolf’s customers include HSBC, GSK, Ericsson, AMD, PayPal and Booking.com.
SAP plans to make the technology a central part of SuccessFactors, its HR software, and of Joule, its AI assistant. “TechWolf’s proprietary context graph for skills and work provides an excellent grounding layer for agent queries regarding work and skills planning and talent management,” said Manoj Swaminathan, president and chief product officer for SAP Autonomous Suite and member of the Extended Board of SAP SE. Andreas De Neve, TechWolf’s chief executive and co-founder, said companies everywhere are trying to work out how AI is changing their workforce. “Organizations everywhere are trying to figure out how AI is reshaping work, and what their workforce needs to look like because of it,” said Andreas De Neve, CEO and co-founder of TechWolf. Under SAP’s current plans, TechWolf will stay an independent unit under De Neve in Ghent, with offices in London, New York and San Francisco. Its platform will also remain open to companies that do not use SAP software.
The deal extends a run of AI purchases by the German software group this year. In March, SAP agreed to buy data management company Reltio, and in May it added Dremio and Prior Labs, committing more than €1bn to Prior Labs over four years.
